Block scheduling reorganizes the school day into longer periods allowing for more in-depth learning, which sounds cool on paper but may feel daunting for those newly transitioning. There are numerous strategies that a teacher can employ to break up these longer periods, but this session will focus on my favorite, collaborative Group Playlists. Playlists combine a mix of activities designed to build specific skills/learn content. Students control the pace of their learning. In the Playlist model, the teacher has structured the activities for the students with check points built in to assess student understanding. Feedback, redirection, and assessment are given on the spot and throughout the Playlist, which means little to no grading later! In this session, the learner will experience the Group Playlist model firsthand and use the template models to design their own Playlists.
