Teachers attending this session will review the origins of Ethnic Studies and delve into its purpose and practice. The presenters will address fundamental concepts that are inherent to the course, as well as more advanced material such as subject-specific methods and pedagogical approaches. Teachers will also learn about what makes Ethnic Studies distinct from other history-social science courses.
In this session, special consideration will be given to planning for 90-minute block periods. Attending teachers will receive helpful resources for planning, pacing, and implementing the Ethnic Studies course, as well.
This session is focused on the needs of new and returning Ethnic Studies teachers, but teachers of all subject matter areas, counselors, and administrators are encouraged to attend. “
